Introduction:
Founded in 1984, TMUs Faculty of Engineering consisted of 7 departments of Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Mining Engineering. The faculty which initially admitted master students expanded its academic activities and 7 years later in 1991 began to offer its doctoral programs. As the number of students increased and in order to enhance its educational and research services, in the following years, five out of the seven departments became full-fledged faculties by themselves. Presently, the Faculty of Engineering consists of two main departments, namely, Materials and Mining Engineering. The Materials Engineering unit consists of four specialized groups (identification and selection of metal materials, ceramics, corrosion and protection of metals, and nano-materials) and Mining Engineering unit, which consists of three groups (mining, stone mechanics and mineral processing). The faculty presently enjoys the service of 32 full-time faculty members, 4 laboratory assistants and 26 specialized laboratories. It offers its academic services to 321 MSc students and 120 doctoral students.
